That is definitely part of it. The scarcity mindset is usually based out of fear. Fear of taking a risk, fear of the unknown, and fear of not being enough, which holds us back in life. Keeping up with the Jonses and comparing ourselves to others can be a characteristic of this mentality. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!

Thank You Lyall - It's really hard to retrain our brains to think differently. But taking that first step to change the way we look at a situation and choosing to be positive really will bring good things your way!

Thank You so much for sharing your story with us. The thought and feeling of not being enough can be such a hard thing to get past. It appears in so many aspects of life, especially for young adults. It's amazing when we come to the realization that we have control over our thoughts, our actions, and our reactions. I love that when the opportunity presented itself that you took that risk, as fearful as it might have been, and that it changed your life. Your story is inspiring!

I had the concept that I wasn't outgoing enough to speak in front of others when I was in high school. I was painfully shy and unpopular. Then one day I was asked to take a lead role in a traveling production where I'd act on stages before thousands of people. The director saw something in me I never saw in myself. Somehow I decided to take a great risk and agreed to try out. I got the part and I was actually pretty good at it! I became an engineer but I volunteered for every speaking gig I could find and in the course of my career presented keynotes to thousands, testified before the Senate and the House in DC and did numerous television and print interviews and Op Ed's. I also ended up running the company I worked at, a billion dollar enterprise. I often wondered what my life would have been like if I had kept that "I'm not enough" mentality instead of taking a risk and finding out that "I'm plenty more than enough to do anything I want to do." How you see yourself and the opportunities you have to win, that's a huge key to success and happiness. Great post!
